have really come to a middle.

(Sorry for the paraphrasing!)

Ireland wasn't in it. (Don't mention the turkey!) but we had a great night thanks to (a) company, (b) wine and (c) [profile] nhw  and liveblogging on both the songs and the voting.

I voted in [personal profile] dougs  poll. No prizes for guessing what got my vote though.

So the Eurovision was won last night by a Russian ripping his shift off. Not a problem in itself. It was a good song, he could sing and of course there was the obvious. But...

Eurovision block voting.

It still annoys me, even though its basically time honoured at this time. The "please don't invade us again" vote is so patently obvious at this point. And not just from eastern europe. Finland votes 12 for Sweden? Surely not! They simply have the same taste in music. Obviously.

Bosnia-Herzogovina.... um, what? They appeared to be channeling something from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Azerbaijan had angels and devils.

Finland went heavy metal again.

The theme for the year appeared to be corsetry. That didn't help the Germans, who had rummaged in the bin of Girl's Alouds' "songwriter" for their entry.

Most of these are up on YouTube at this stage so I will leave you with shirt ripping Russians...

And the wildly overlooked Latvian Pirates (who could not have voted for the pirates?)

Sadly, Eurovision is the only reason I miss having a TV. I was supposed to be watching it around a friend's (she was going to have a Eurovision party) but she'd managed to double book herself and was in Centre Parcs instead. :(

For someone in the States, one some one who doesn't even watch televison...I found this quite humorous...

I still think Dustin should have won :)

But seriously, the block voting is killing the fun of it.

Hi Ava

It was always there to some extent, I suppose, but its really ridiculous now.

I admit to being a bit horrified when Dustin qualified, but when I saw some of the exibits last night, I started to think maybe he should have got it afterall!

Part of the fun now is spotting the countries that don't have to qualify. Only the UK appears to be making an effort - Germany, hello? Spain had a guy in an Elvis wig and a Fisher Price guitar and all of France's backing singers had Life of Brian beards on.

Well worth a giggle actually :D

I can only imagine how it looks. EWH had to explain it to his American brother in law a few years ago when a Finnish Heavy Metal band dressed as demons (with full prosthetic maskes on) won. Damn, but Lordi was cool looking back.

I haven't managed to watch the whole eurovision in years. Though I keep sneaking by to catch bits of it. Guess if I had enough wine though, anything's possible. I did think the Russian song was reasonable though. But strange performance with that ice skating guy flouncing around. :)
