I've finished the first pass on The Penitent, looking for was, felt, and -ingly. I was working quite late last night so cant remember if I did a sweep for seems. I'm trying to think of other words which might be too passive, or otherwise negative for narrative.
Then I guess I have to call it quits and send it off again.
There is something kinda nice about editing and re-editing. You feel you are doing something without actually putting your work on the line. It's the same with critiquing to a certain extent. Unless you've done major rewrites, what is the point of getting the same piece looked at over and over again. I really need to get this out the door so I can go back to chewing on my finger nails and looking for signs and portents.
Having the laptop certainly sped me up, which is good because that was the intention.
So, off to look things up and see if there is anything else I need to search for before I finally pack this baby out the door once again.
