Ctrl + F "was"

I spent over two hours last night going through The Penitent looking for the word "was" and trying to make the voice less passive. I would like to say I finished, but I only got about a third of the way through. I didn't even mean to. My husband went out about 8, I sat down thinking I'd do about an hour, the cat harassed me a little, and the next thing I knew, my husband rang to say he was on the way back and it was 10.20pm! Couldn't believe it.

On the brighter side I am a third of the way through this part of the edit.

Now I just have to work out what other weaker words I habitually used - felt and seemed look like prime candidates.
