Writing: To Regain Heaven now stands at 57,037 which is still short by at least 12,963. This means that so far I have expanded by 8,294 which is pretty good. I've done up to Chapter 14, which means I still have 6 chapters to go.

What all this gibberish means is that the odds are I am still going to be short by the time I finish the first edit. *grrrr*

On the other hand I am stunned by my capacity to expand, although not overly surprised. The problem usually lies in tightening up. The change I have really noticed between writing this novel and the last one is that I spent a fairly long time writing short fiction and flashes rather than novel/novella length work. A learning experience in so many ways.

Lesson one: I am not a short fiction writer.
Lesson two: I can now write much more tightly, and sometime too tightly.

Reading: I picked up Nora Robert's Circle Trilogy and started reading Morrigan's Cross yesterday. I'm loving it. Very entertaining, interesting characters and of course fascinating subject matter for me! I am reading the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicals to my son. Wonderful stuff.

Research: Some fantastic stuff on Loughcrew came my way via a wonderful friend, including time delayed film of the latest Equinox event here. There are some wonderful photos too. I'm planning on using the cairn here in Moy Tura Echoes for a scene where the Tuatha go on the offensive and are robbed of their powers. According to my friend, she found it an atmostpheric, sinister place, a perfect haunt for Maeve.

Guilty pleasures: It's a toss up between watching Most Haunted Live in Turin (!) tonight, my lovely glass of Baywood cab sav on the coffee table, or the alluring call of the Terry's Mint Chocolate Orange in the treat drawer. Such a selection this evening!

Guilty confessions: I haven't subbed anything in AGES! and its much easier to write a blog entry this way.

Two days to P-Con. I'd better push on with the editing this evening and leave La Nora for bedtime (which might not be too far away)

Hey, it sounds like you're doing a fantastic job on the expanding! Are you putting in more details of scenes, or more actual scenes, do you think?

Mostly more details in scenes, but there are some new scenes too. I have to redo Chapter 14 adding loads to the beginning. I discovered that last night and decided that it was a job for this evening instead.

Somethings you need to tackle when you're fresh!

Pretty good word count. I'm still at 12,000 words on my wip. It's something I'd started out writing as a short story, only to discover it's longer than a short story. Writing long is a challenge.

Oh, and I feel like I haven't subbed anything in ages. Although I did send out a couple earlier this month. I'm still lethargic though. Might do something about the subs next month.

I feel like I haven't subbed anything in ages, but when I looked on Duotrope it turned out to be 10 days!

You're suffering from the opposite to me - I think I'm running long. I can't see Reunion being done in only 20 chapters.

Why do you have to choose between your gulty pleasures? GO with all three! I've got series 1 of Spaced, a cup of coffee, and a Cadburys Cream Egg here. :-D
