I got a response to crit I did some time ago this morning and it has left me a bit flabbergasted. In it the person takes a suggestion I made (as part of a longer crit) and picks it apart completely to show me why it is wrong beyond wrong and they will not be using it.

Sorry! I thought a crit was a request for an opinion. I apologize for actually giving mine. (Actually, no, I don't.)

It happens. There's a simple rule in this instance; don't crit that person again. It's clear they're looking for validation, not criticism.

There's nothing wrong in disagreeing with/not using a crit. But you don't go back to the critiquer and tell them why they're wrong. You thank them for their time and input.

Some folks are like that. I think why post your stuff for critting if you think it's perfect already? Of course, some folks do post stuff just for affirmation that they're doing the right thing, but I think that if you know it works as is, then you should be sending it out and not posting it for crits.

reading the above, it sounds like I'm referring to you...by "you" I meant folks who post stuff for crits. *how come lj doesn't have anything for editing your comments...mutter, mutter*

Huh?

Argue with a crit? Since when? Sheesh..

Gotta agree with Tch though.

Although, I might be tempted in sending them a note back apologizing for being so WAAAAYY off base as the author apparently is in full knowledge of everything as to render all opinions and commentary useless.

Good luck in the future with this person, but like Tch said. I wouldn't touch so much as a grocery list from this writer in the future.

Ugh, it's so maddening! What a weird response, but definitely, don't crit him again.

Don't you wish you could warn other critters, so that they won't waste their time, too? I mean, quite likely others will point out these same things and get the same (or worse!) response.
